M4-SENIORS

The final phase of life — roughly from age 60 onward — is in many ways most important. It's when we reflect, find meaning, and give back to society through experience, wisdom, and perspective. It's also when we gradually move from independence to dependence, requiring societal structures that support dignity in all phases of life.

Currently, we're failing on both fronts: we undervalue what seniors have to offer at the same times as, considering rapidly shifting demographics, we're increasingly ill-equipped to care for them when they need it the most. M4-SENIORS is a new health model built for our seniors and addressing these issues.

A shift in perspective: towards prevention & equality

M4-SENIORS aims to reframe how we think about aging. Rather than viewing seniors as passive recipients of care — a cost and burden on society — we see them as active agents who can define their own goals and contribute to fulfilling them, just like any other age group.

We also want to shift from reactive care to active prevention. With the right lifestyle and preventive measures, biological age can often be kept well below chronological age, keeping seniors healthier and more active for longer. This shift will be driven by two core pillars of M4-HEALTH: Personalized digital twins that help build an interconnected health ecosystem.

Personalized digital twins to help you optimize your health and care

At the core of M4-HEALTH is a first-of-its-kind technology: personalized digital twins that model what's happening inside an individual's body — down to the organ and cellular level. The twins can also simulate the effects of different actions — eating, exercising, or taking medication — both immediately and over months and years.

This enables truly personalized guidance: what should I eat? How should I exercise? How should I engage socially? — all tailored to my own health goals. Beyond individual use, the digital twin serves as an integration layer, helping connect different actors into a coherent health ecosystem.

An integrated and health-promoting ecosystem interlinked via the digital twin

Our approach rests on three components:

Prevention first. By shifting focus toward prevention, we aim to generate more healthy years. This means engaging with existing initiatives — senior organizations, associations, and health programs like Måltidsgillet and Hälsogillet — while building infrastructure that helps seniors set and work toward personalized health goals.

A synchronized ecosystem. By having all actors share information through a single digital twin, each contributor can build optimally on what others are doing. Data is stored and shared securely, with the senior in full control of who accesses what.

Structural change. We actively develop visions for how each phase and actor should function, then work backward — from pilots to full implementation — to make them a reality.

An integrated and expanded ecosystem for healthcare and eldercare

As seniors become more dependent on others, M4-SENIORS expands the care ecosystem beyond traditional actors. Volunteers, friends, and neighbors are brought in as empowered contributors — informed by the digital twin and able to take on a broader range of tasks.

We will also explore innovative living arrangements, such as cross-generational and collective housing. The digital twin even helps synchronize and optimize care in ways not possible today across the formal care chain — from assistant nurses to specialized providers.

M4-SENIORS will build these infrastructures step by step: from pilot studies to randomized controlled trials, and ultimately to full-scale implementation — laying the foundation for tomorrow's eldercare.
