M4-HEALTH

A new health model using hybrid digital twins and AI

Excellence cluster for a new health ecosystem

M4-HEALTH is an excellence cluster creating a new health model based on hybrid digital twins and a new health ecosystem. M4-HEALTH unites 14 Swedish universities, governmental organizations and over 100 companies – an impressive growth from 10 original consortium members leading up to the recent submission of an enormous application to VINNOVA with 2 billion SEK over ten years in potential funding.

M4-HEALTH seeks to transform the current reactive and hospital-centric healthcare system into a preventive, personalized, ecosystem-based approach, which is bound together by the next big breakthrough in AI: Personalized digital twins of individuals. Personalized digital twins are made possible through our world-unique model that combines processes from the intracellular level to the whole-body response - across times, species and different situations - to account for all major functionalities in the body.

Why do we need the new health ecosystem and what is the vision for M4-HEALTH?

Join the M4-HEALTH Consortium

We are looking for four types of actors.

Scientists and experts on the body and mind

AI, modelling, and data experts

End-users across all health sectors

Visionaries for re-structuring future

We are interested in participation from both scientists, companies, organizations, societies, universities, governmental agencies, as well as private citizens. You can join in any of the four activities. You can also sign up to become an early beta-tester of the new digital twin technologies and eHealth apps.

Our WHY

The old, hospital-centric models are crumbling. They will not be able to carry us forward much longer.

Elderly healthcare: High demand and low supply

The 80+ population will grow by around 50% this decade. This group already accounts for about half of healthcare costs, driving sharp increases in spending and workforce demand.

Decaying health in young population

Younger, working-age populations are becoming less healthy, with rising physical and mental illness — reducing future healthcare capacity.

AI and changing healthcare structure

Rapid AI advances are embedding medical expertise into tools used by both patients and clinicians, disrupting the traditional hospital-centered model.

We are in urgent need for new disruptive innovations, regarding both technologies and associated societal structures. We need a new model for health - M4-HEALTH.

At the heart of this new health model lies what we believe to be the next big breakthrough within AI and data-driven life science: personalized digital twins of individuals, which combines M4 models for how the body works - with machine learning (ML) and large language models (LLMs). The model enables us to replicate a person externally and internally, from organs to cells,  and simulate how lifestyle changes, treatments, or medications affect health.

Original Consortium Members

We started out as 10 original consortium members. Now we are 17 partner universities, governmental organizations and 100+ companies.
